The first phase of the educational program for gifted students, carried out as part of the Cevher Children Project in collaboration between Istanbul Medeniyet University and the Gebze Municipality, has been successfully completed. As part of the project, which is planned to last two years, approximately 150 elementary school students residing in the Gebze district applied, and 40 students who met the specified criteria were accepted into the program, which was carried out with enriched content aimed at supporting the students’ academic and personal development.

The Cevher Children Project Phase 1 Closing Ceremony was held with the participation of our Rector, Prof. Dr. Gülfettin Çelik; Gebze Mayor Zinnur Büyükgöz; Gebze District Governor Mehmet Ali Özyiğit; Cevher Children Project Coordinator and Chair of the Department of Special Education, Prof. Dr. Marilena Z. Leana Taşcılar; our students; their parents; and educators.

As part of the project, which is built upon the scientific foundation of Istanbul Medeniyet University’s Enriched Education Program for Gifted and Talented Children (İMÜZEP), educational content prepared by Istanbul Medeniyet University faculty members under the coordination of Prof. Dr. Marilena Z. Leana Taşcılar, training sessions were conducted in the fields of gastronomy, numismatics, philosophy, artificial intelligence, creativity, software, life skills, entrepreneurship, and innovation, based on educational content prepared by Istanbul Medeniyet University faculty members. The courses conducted for teachers throughout the program were led by Dr. Berrin Onurlar, Assistant Professor from the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts; Dr. Ertürk Erdağı, Assistant Professor from the Department of Computer Engineering; Dr. İbrahim Hakkı Bulut, Assistant Professor from the Department of Informatics; Research Assistant Yasin Saygılı from the Department of Art History, Dr. Oğuz Bektaş and Research Assistant Dr. Emre Köroğlu from the Department of Aeronautical Engineering, Dr. Ahmet Faruk Çağlar from the Department of Philosophy, and Research Assistant Afra Selcen Taşdelen from the Department of Special Education. Research Assistant Dr. Yasemin Arslan from the Department of Special Education served as the project assistant.

Preparations are ongoing to update the educational content based on feedback received from students and teachers throughout the semester and to begin the second semester of the project in October.
