Organized by the Department of Preschool Education within the Division of Basic Education at the Faculty of Educational Sciences of Istanbul Medeniyet University, the seminar titled “Supporting Mathematical Thinking in Early Childhood: Practical Applications for Parents,” was held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, in the Early Childhood Education Application Classroom of Building B, North Campus, Istanbul Medeniyet University.
Prof. Dr. Yusuf Koç, a faculty member from the Department of Mathematics Education at Kocaeli University, participated as a speaker. Prof. Dr. Koç shared his knowledge and experience with the participants regarding his applied research in the field of early mathematics and examples of supportive practices for parents.
The seminar addressed daily life-based applications aimed at supporting mathematical thinking during early childhood. Additionally, application examples similar to those featured as best practices on the internationally recognized “Learning Trajectories” platform—developed by Douglas Clements and Julie Sarama—were shared with participants.
The event highlighted the role of parents in supporting children’s early mathematical thinking skills, and evaluations were conducted through practical recommendations and sample activities. The seminar concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation following the Q&A session.
