“Introduction to Next Generation Sequencing (NGS)” Seminar Held

23.12.2024

Istanbul Medeniyet University, Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics organized a seminar titled “Introduction to Next Generation Sequencing (NGS)” in order to increase the scientific knowledge of students and academicians. At the event held in the Red Hall of the Central Classroom Building on December 20, 2024, Genera Diagnostic Technical Product Specialist Dr. Gizem Alkurt shared the basic principles and innovative application areas of NGS technology with the participants.

The seminar discussed in detail the product innovation opportunities offered by NGS compared to classical sequencing methods. Dr. Gizem Alkurt emphasized the revolutionary contributions of NGS in areas such as genetic research, cancer biology, rare disease diagnosis and personalized medicine. She stated that the technology's high efficiency, sensitivity and speed advantages are of great value in terms of process innovation.

The different features of NGS platforms, data analysis processes and technical difficulties encountered in these processes were also among the important topics of the seminar. Dr. Gizem Alkurt discussed the integration of bioinformatic analyses with NGS technology and big data management processes from a process innovation perspective. She provided a comprehensive vision to the participants by providing a detailed explanation of the applications of this innovative technology in academic and clinical research.

During the event, students and academics had the opportunity to ask questions about technology and receive detailed information about data analysis processes. A wide range of information was shared, especially from participants who were new to NGS technology to those interested in advanced data analysis.

At the end of the seminar, Dr. Gizem Alkurt guided students who want to pursue a career in the field of NGS about the opportunities in the sector and the processes they can develop using this technology. She offered concrete career suggestions for students based on her experiences in the sector. This event was a free vocational training for students interested in the scientific and industrial applications of NGS technology and was highly appreciated.
