The Group Exhibition “GİT’ÇİLER 101: Mixed Course Works Exhibition”

20.04.2026

Organized by the Department of Visual Communication Design at the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture of Istanbul Medeniyet University, opens to visitors on April 17, 2026, at İMU Gallery. Curated by Lecturer Dr. Serra Kızıltaş and Lecturer Zübeyde Beşirli, the exhibition brings together a wide selection of works produced within the scope of courses that shape the department’s production dynamics, including Basic Design, Graphic Design, Lettering and Typography, Advanced Typography Techniques, Editorial Design, Illustration, Branding and Design, and Design and Humor.

Centering on the frequently asked question from outside—“What do students of Visual Communication Design (VCD) actually do?”—the exhibition invites viewers into the often unseen, intricately crafted “kitchen” of design. “GİT’ÇİLER 101” explores the process of transforming abstract ideas into tangible, visible, and perceptible forms of meaning, revealing the quiet collaboration between different disciplines. The selection ranges from students’ first steps grounded in the discipline of Basic Design, to typographic experiments where letters are treated as living entities; from editorial narratives that bring pages to life, to branding projects that construct the spirit of institutions—offering a broad spectrum of creative production.

Approaching the deep-rooted history and established rules of design not as limitations but as starting points for discovering new forms of expression, the exhibition reflects the energy of young designers who constantly experiment, are unafraid of making mistakes, and continuously recreate. Emphasizing that design is not merely an aesthetic shell but a way of communicating with the world, this dynamic journey invites all art and design enthusiasts to explore the question “What exactly do VCD students produce?” through works that come to life on paper.

The exhibition can be visited at İMU Gallery until May 8, 2026.
